Amie Schutz Now a Roadrunner

Amie Schutz has signed her NJCAA Letter of Intent to play volleyball for Head Coach Jenny Nate and the Roadrunners.

A 2023 graduate of Valparaiso High School, Schutz has spent two seasons at Purdue University Northwest, redshirting her freshman year, and will transfer to SMC for the Spring 2025 semester to continue her studies in psychology. This fall, she played 20 sets in eight total matches for the NCAA Division II Pride.

Coach Nate said, "Amie Schutz is a versatile, talented athlete who comes to us with NCAA DII experience and a very strong high school and club volleyball background.  I had the privilege of coaching Amie at Dunes Volleyball Club, and she can literally do it all; she has incredible court presence and volleyball IQ. She is intense on the net playing both outside and middle and is just as strong defensively as a six rotation player and leader.  Amie knows how to score from every spot on the court, plays to win, and will challenge her teammates and those around her to practice, prepare, hustle, and compete at the highest level at all times.  Academically, she is just as strong and is a leader in every sense of the word.  We look forward to Amie stepping into a major role on the SMC Volleyball Team and are thrilled to welcome her."

Schutz is the fifth member of the 2025 SMC Volleyball class, joining Sophia Bachman and Isabella Tibbles of Buchanan, Randi Taylor of Lakeshore and Meah Evans of Constantine as new players on the Roadrunners squad.

SMC Volleyball finished the 2024 season with a winning record of 22-16, including a win over the previously undefeated and nationally-ranked McHenry County Scots. The Roadrunners were 7-5 in the MCCAA Western Conference, qualifying for the Great Lakes District Tournament for the third consecutive year, advancing in the bracket twice. Individual Roadrunners earned seven conference and regional awards, including All-Freshman Team, All-Conference Honorable Mention, All-Conference Second Team, All-Conference First Team, All-MCCAA Team and All-Region Team.
