Roadrunners Split Macomb and LMC

Roadrunners Split Macomb and LMC

The Southwestern Michigan Volleyball Team defeated Macomb on Wednesday for the second time this season 21-25, 25-15, 25-17, and 25-11.

"Following our win over KVCC last night, we had some specific goals tonight: play clean ball and reduce errors, serves in, play aggressive every point, and play with big energy the entire match," said Head Coach Jenny Nate. "We accomplished that tonight with our 3-1 win.  This was a great way to prepare for LMC tomorrow. We need to walk on the court tomorrow with the same energy and goals tomorrow and focus on playing SMC Volleyball and controlling the runs and tempo of the match."

Leading serving scorers for Wednesday: Josie West 14 points, 3 aces; Ryli Burks 10 points; Talan Hiemstra 9 points; Cadence Knight 8 points; Anna Johnson 7 points; Gia Jania 5 points, 2 aces

Assists: Anna Johnson 24, Ryli Burks 19

But things did not go as planned on Thursday night and the Roadrunners lost a tough one to LMC tonight 19-25, 26-24, 24-26, and 22-25.  "This was a very intense match with a large crowd and a lot of pressure; some of our players were able to stay calm and perform under pressure, and some of our players were a little tense which caused us to have more errors than usual," Nate said. "This was definitely a mental game for us, and we have to be able to perform offensively under pressure and attack with intention. We have a mixture of sophomores and freshmen on the court, and our younger players will keep getting better at handling that pressure as we continue on with conference play.  LMC had a tough block tonight and were a little stronger on the net than us.  We had moments where our energy picked up, but we struggled to control runs, and that makes it really tough to close tight sets.  We always learn from a loss, and we will head to the practice tomorrow to make improvements before we travel to Glen Oaks next week."
