Gia Jania Signs with the Roadrunners

Gia Jania of Westville High School (Indiana) and Dunes Volleyball Club has signed her NJCAA Letter of Intent to play volleyball in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse for Head Coach Jenny Nate and the Roadrunners.

SMC Coach Jenny Nate said of Jania, "Gia is a 6-foot, powerful middle hitter who has extensive court experience at the high school and club levels. She will continue to play for Dunes 18 Black and prepare for the college season.  Gia is All-Conference, won the Most Improved Award for four consecutive years, is second in the PCC Conference for hitting percentage, and is 5th in her conference in blocking.  Gia will play a huge role on the net for us at SMC, and we are thrilled to welcome her to our team."

Westville Coach Dale Lake added, "Gia is a very hard worker and leader! She is a perfectionist and always wants to know what she is doing wrong. Regardless of the score, she never quits. She has improved her game tremendously the last couple years. She has not come close to reaching her potential. SMC has signed a true leader and someone who will represent your college in a positive way! Good luck Gia!"

Jania is the first member of the 2024 SMC Volleyball recruiting class.

SMC Volleyball finished its second season after a 25-year hiatus with a record of 23-13. The Roadrunners improved to 7-5 in the MCCAA Western Conference, placing third and again qualifying for the Great Lakes District A Tournament. Indvidual players earned eight conference and regional awards, including All-Freshman Team, All-Conference Second Team, All-Conference First Team, All-Region Team and Player of the Year.
