Logan Gilbert Chooses SMC
Logan Gilbert of Climax-Scotts High School has signed his NJCAA Letter of Intent to wrestle for Head Coach Todd Hesson and the Roadrunners.
Gilbert's high school record was an incredible 191-21. He was a four-time district champion, four-time regional champion, and was named All-State all four years. In those state meets, he placed in the top three all four years: in third place once, as runner-up once and state champion twice.
Gilbert joins Gavin VanKirk of Mason, Chaz Underwood and Mazzy Lambert of White Pigeon and Jayden Cochran of Miamisburg, Ohio, as the fifth signee in the 2025 SMC Wrestling recruiting class.
Mike Reitz, retired Varsity Head Coach for Climax-Scotts said, "It is my pleasure to recommend Logan Gilbert for admission to SMC and participation in the wrestling program. As Logan's wrestling coach, I have had the privilege of watching him grow as an athlete and an individual. Logan has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, discipline and sportsmanship. His accomplishments are a testament to his hard work and commitment to excellence. Logan's talents reach farther the mat, he is a leader that inspires his teammates and contributes positively to the team dynamic.
"I am confident Logan will be a valuable asset to the SMC Wrestling team. His strong work ethic and determination will undoubtedly make him a standout athlete at the college level. Thank you for considering Logan Gilbert for your program. I wholeheartedly support his decision to enroll at SMC and am excited to see all that he will achieve."
Hesson added, "Logan comes into our program with an impressive resume and has both team and individual postseason experience. He is excited for the challenge of wrestling at the next level."
In 2024-2025, the Roadrunners again went undefeated in the MCCAA Duals Meet, earned the threepeat in the MCCAA Conference championship, defeated three nationally-ranked teams to win the Great Lakes District and qualify the maximum ten wrestlers for the national meet. SMC finished the season at #14 in the country and sophomores Colby Klinger and Nathan Andrina were honored as All-Americans.
On April 9, the college announced the construction of a new 11,195 square-foot wing of the Zollar Building that will quadruple the space available to the men's and women's wrestling teams. It will double the mat capacity for practice sessions and provide additional competition space for hosting conference and regional meets. The new facility will also include a dedicated fitness and warm-up area, coaches' offices, locker rooms and additional restrooms. On-site work has already begun, with a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for May 2025 and occupancy targeted for February 2026.
