
CaSaundra Smith Signs with the Roadrunners
CaSaundra Smith, a guard from Fitzgerald High School in Warren, Michigan, has signed her NJCAA Letter of Intent to play women's basketball in 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse for Coach Jay Jenkins and the Roadrunners starting in Fall 2025.
Coach Shake of Fitzgerald said, "Cass has spent 4 years growing and maturing on and off the court in an amazing way. I'm excited to watch her grow even more in the adult world." Coach Jenkins added, "We are excited to add a versatile guard to our family."
Smith is the second member of the 2025 SMC Women's Basketball recruiting class, joining Diavian Robinson of Livonia.
In Jenkins' first season as coach and the program's second year back in intercollegiate competition after a 26-year hiatus, the 2023-2024 squad won the MCCAA Western Conference. The team then won the Great Lakes District B Tournament, earning a berth at the NJCAA National Championship in Joplin, Missouri, where they went 1-1, finishing the season at 27-5. SMC set numerous school records, including single game scoring (111), team two-point FG made in a game (43), team free throws made in a game (21), fewest points allowed in a game (18), team assists in a game (31), team rebounds in a game (67) and team steals in a game (25).
The team's season ended this weekend in the District Semifinals with a 21-10 overall record. The Roadrunners were 9-5 in the Western Conference and defended the Fieldhouse fiercely, going 13-2 on their home court.
