SMC WBB Finishes Regular Season with Big Victories

SMC Women's Basketball finished the 2024-25 regular season by winning seven of their last nine conference games, soundly defeating their closest geographic rivals in the last two.

On Saturday in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse, the Roadrunners built an 8-0 lead and did not look back, beating Glen Oaks by 50 points in their Western Conference matchup. After a sloppy start for both teams, the Roadrunners were up by nine at the end of Q1. They drove the lane well vs. the Vikings, but even with lots of contact, did not get a lot of calls underneath. SMC took a 34-18 lead into halftime...and then seemingly could not miss in Q3, pouring in 3s and acrobatic layups while holding Glen Oaks to just five points the entire quarter. SMC shot a blistering 61.5% from deep (a new school record!) and the 82-32 final outcome was the biggest conference win for the team in at least 28 years.

SMC was led by freshman guard Rayvan Rush with 16 points and 6 rebounds, freshmen Morganne Postell and Caley Strahan each poured in 14 (Strahan shot 75% from three-point range) and freshman Olivia Robinson added 10 points.

In the finale at LMC on Tuesday, it was all Roadrunners again, 91-50. SMC built a 14-point margin after one quarter, then were off to the races, with the Red Hawks not having much of an answer. The Roadrunners were led by freshmen Rush and Maggie Weller, each with 20 points, Strahan had 10 and was just shy of a double-double with 9 rebounds, and sophomore Amara Palmer had eight off the bench. Weller also had three blocks and is tied with alumna Tori Eldridge for the season record with 23.

SMC is now 20-9 overall, 9-5 in the West, and will host the Grand Rapids Raiders for the first round of the postseason on Tuesday, March 4 at 5:30pm.
