WBB Picks Up Two Feast Week Wins

SMC Women's Basketball was a perfect 2-0 during Feast Week, winning home contests by huge margins.

On Wednesday, SMC dominated the visiting Community Christian Lions, 97-26. The Roadrunners were off to the races from the tip and played tough defense, not allowing a point from the Lions until 2:41 left in Q1. It was 22-6 after the first period, and 42-15 at the half. The Roadrunners scored the first 17 points of Q3 and just kept pulling away as the Lions didn't have many answers.

SMC was led by freshman Atyanna Alford, who came off the bench to put in 20 points, going 9 of 17 from the field. Sophomore Caley Strahan had 13 points plus 8 rebounds and three different freshmen guards – Maggie Weller, Olivia Robinson and Morganne Postell – each added 10 points.

On Saturday afternoon, SMC jumped out to an 8-0 lead on the visiting Alpena Lumberjacks, using their press and defense to build a 27-14 lead after one quarter. Alpena could not find their offensive rhythm and the Roadrunners held to them only eight in the second stanza, taking a 46-22 lead into the locker room.

The Lumberjacks won the third quarter, but SMC locked in and pulled away in the final period, for their fourth straight victory, this one by 29 points at 77-48.

In this one, Weller went off for 17 points and eight rebounds, freshman guard Rayvan Rush had 15 and seven, and freshman Shiyah Forte added 12 points to go with her 8 rebounds.

The Roadrunners, now 8-2, will hit the road later this week for back-to-back games at North Central Michigan and Kirtland on 12/6-12/7 before a break for finals.
