Kate Gilroy Signs with the Roadrunners

Kate Gilroy of Gross Ile High School in Grosse Ile, Michigan, has signed her NJCAA Letter of Intent to play women's basketball in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse for Coach Jay Jenkins and the Roadrunners.

Coach James Frost said of Gilroy, "Kate's best attribute offensively is playing with her back to the basket and playing block to block. She also has a strong jump shot that can extend the defense. Kate aggressively goes after offensive rebounds and gets lots of second chance scoring opportunities. Defensively, Kate is the backbone of our 2/3 defense. She is responsible for protecting the rim by forcing the opponents to take a contested shot. Kate also averages about 2 blocks per game."

Coach Jenkins added, "Kate is a true traditional post. At 6'2", she will be a dominant force in the paint. We are definitely going to feed her the ball down low and make opponents try to stop her."

Gilroy joins Miss Kentucky Basketball candidate Shiyah Forte of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Khalise Collins of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Rayvan Rush of Lansing, Illinois, Atyanna Alford of Cassopolis, Cam Edmondson of Harvey, Illinois, Bella Cullifer of Constantine, Maggie Weller of Dowagiac and Olivia Robinson of Roscoe, Illinois, as the ninth member SMC's 2024 Women's Basketball recruiting class.

As the Roadrunners enter the postseason, the team is 24-4 overall, won the West by going 10-2 in conference, finished with a home record of 15-1 and earned the #1 seed in the Great Lakes District B bracket. This squad has already set numerous school and individual records, including single game scoring (111), team two-point FG made in a game (43), team free throws made in a game (21), fewest points allowed in a game (18), team assists in a game (31), team rebounds in a game (67) and team steals in a game (25).
