Roadrunners Keep Logging Wins

The SMC Women's Basketball Team notched two more rivalry wins this week.

On Saturday, the LMC Red Hawks were simply no match for the Roadrunners as SMC Women's Basketball won 83-61 in Benton Harbor. The Green and Gold led 24-14 after the first quarter and 47-31 at the half. LMC scored just nine points in Q3 and the Roadrunners emptied the bench en route to the final margin of 22, dropping LMC to 4-15 on the year. Sophomore Cameron Thomas double-doubled with 22 points and 10 rebounds, sophomore Macey Laubach had 17 points, and freshman Amara Palmer added 13 points with nine assists.

On Wednesday, the Roadrunners avenged last season's playoff loss at the LifePlex with another blowout by defeating the Marian Ancilla Chargers, 87-55. The Roadrunners took an 8-2 lead and it was off to the races: they led by 9 after one period, by 20 at the half, by 33 after three and the final margin was 32. The Roadrunners set a school record with 30 steals in the game. Thomas had another double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes, Laubach added 14 points and 8 steals and Palmer was everywhere, scoring 13 plus 7 steals, 7 assists and 7 rebounds.

The Green and Gold are 19-3 and now prepare for the third tilt of the four-game road trip as they head to Cereal City for a rematch with the Kellogg Bruins, who beat SMC by one point in their only loss at the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse so far this season.
