Men's Basketball Falls in Final Seconds
SMC Men's Basketball gave conference-leading KVCC absolutely all they could handle Saturday in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse, taking a 9-0 lead before the Cougars could even get off a shot. But the visitors ran off eight straight and eventually tied the game at 17. It was a true battle most of the way, but SMC were a bit sloppy at the end of the 1st half, going into the locker room down nine.
The Roadrunners played crisp basketball out of the break and whittled the margin down to one with 11:30 left, eventually tying the game at 73, then at 83 with 1:41 left and 88 with 8.4 left. KVCC scored underneath with just 2.4 ticks on the clock. After a series of timeouts, SMC inbounded the ball to sophomore AJ Hull, but somehow, the Cougars escaped 90-88.
Five SMC players scored in double figures. Hull had 20 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists, freshman Davion Goins had 19 points, sophomore RJ Davis added 17, sophomore Prince Adams had 16 and freshman Damontae May put in 10.
SMC next travels to Lansing for a road test against the Stars on Wednesday, February 19.
