MBB Beats Lansing, Loses to KVCC
SMC Men's Basketball got their first MCCAA Western Conference win of the season Saturday against the Lansing Stars, 86-76, in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 12-4 lead and never looked back, using some timely 3-point shooting to stretch the lead to 13 at the break. The second half featured mini runs both ways but was played basically even and SMC was able to notch the win. Freshman guard Damontae May set the school record for single game assists with 14, and added five points. Sophomore Aries Hull went off for 29 points and 10 rebounds, yet another double-double to add to his collection. Sophomore RJ Davis shot 6 of 13 from long range (46%) for 21 points, and freshman Davion Goins added 13 points.
Monday night's makeup game at KVCC was a different story, as the Cougars overwhelmed the Roadrunners, 95-64. SMC is now 12-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference, currently in seventh place and out of the tournament field. They get a chance to improve their record on Wednesday, January 29, in a road contest at Glen Oaks.
