MBB Secures Home Playoff with Win Over LMC

The SMC Men's Basketball Team got two positive results on Tuesday. They beat rival Lake Michigan College 90-60, getting some revenge for the earlier season loss, and they secured a home playoff game in the upcoming Great Lakes District Tournament.

The Roadrunners took care of business on Sophomore Night by jumping out to a lead at the start. However, the action was back and forth in pretty equal measure and the score was knotted at 35 at the break.
After some halftime adjustments, SMC increased the intensity and ran out to a double digit lead, keeping the pressure on and wearing down the Red Hawks to win by 30. Sophomore Mari Nichols led the Roadrunners with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Freshman Aries Hull went 7 of 9 from the field, dropping in 17 plus 8 rebounds. Freshman Rodell Davis, Jr. provided some hot shooting, going 50% from downtown for 11 points, and sophomore Mikel Forrest added 13 points and 5 rebounds.

SMC locked in the #3 seed in the Great Lakes District C bracket and will host #4 Kellogg CC on Tuesday, March 5, at 7:00pm in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse. This will be the 3rd meeting for the teams this season, with the winner of the rubber match heading to Flint to face the #1 seed from the South (still TBD) in the District semi-final game.
