Men's Basketball Earns Critical Road Win

The SMC Men's Basketball Team took a home loss on Wednesday, but it was bombs away on Saturday at Lansing.

In the home game against Kalamazoo Valley, the Roadrunners shot just 31% from the field (28% from long range) but were down just four at the half. However, the conference-leading Cougars got more shots to drop in the second half and SMC lost by 12, 80-68. The Green and Gold were led by freshmen Rodell Davis, Jr. with 21 points (5-10 from behind the arc) and Prince Adams, who double-doubled with 16 points and ten rebounds. Sophomore Mikel Forrest had nine points off the bench, mostly from the foul line.

On Saturday, however, the Roadrunners shot 60% (12 of 20) from downtown and picked up a critical conference road win, pulling down the Lansing Stars by the score of 93-75.

The Roadrunners again found themselves in an early 9-point hole, but were able to shoot their way out to go up 44-35 at the half. After SMC pushed the lead up to 16, Lansing started to chip away and got within 5 with 11:49 to go. But SMC refocused and started hitting shots again, pulling away for the victory. Sophomore Rashawn Bost was on fire, pouring in 21 on 8-10 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc. Sophomore Mari Nichols also had 21 (57% from 3-pt range), Adams double-doubled again with 17 points and 11 rebounds, freshman Aries Hull had 15 points (shooting 75% from the field) and Davis, Jr. added 14.

SMC is now 10-8 overall and 1-2 in the MCCAA Western Conference with a game (rescheduled from January 13) versus Marian Ancilla in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse on Monday, January 29...their second of three games in just five calendar days.
