Men's Basketball Splits the Week
The SMC Men's Basketball Team lost in their first conference game, but bounced back with a W three days later.
On Wednesday, SMC lost to the Kellogg Community College Bruins, 88-73. The Roadrunners trailed by eight at halftime, but they fought back to take the lead with about nine minutes left in the game. However, Kellogg then went on a run to close out the win. Freshman RJ Davis got hot from outside, knocking down 5-12 from behind the arc and leading the team with 23 points. Freshman Aries Hull double-doubled with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and freshman Prince Adams added 11 points.
Then on Saturday, they were clicking from the jump and pushed out to a 20-point lead over the Grace Christian Tigers in the first half, taking a 16-point margin into the locker room. The Tigers started the second period with an 8-2 run, and hit a bunch of long threes, but the Roadrunners used their speed and athletic advantage to pull away at the end for a 90-62 victory. SMC set a modern record for free throw percentage in a game at 83.3%, making 20 of 24 attempts. The Green and Gold were led by three players with double-doubles: Adams with 20 points and 11 rebounds, Hull with 18 and 10, and sophomore Rashawn Bost with 16 points to accompany 10 assists.
