MBB Drops Two This Week

The SMC Men's Basketball Team had a tough week, losing two games to start the year.

On Wednesday, they fell to the #5 South Suburban Bulldogs at home by the score of 82-58. The Roadrunners were in a 7-0 hole to start the game, down 12 at halftime, and the second period wound up about the same. SMC was led by freshmen Prince Adams with 25 points and Aries Hull with 9. Sophomore Mikel Forrest scored 8 off the bench.

Then on Saturday, SMC lost a close one on the road in Grand Rapids, 77-72. The Roadrunners found themselves down 10-2 and 18-7 in the first half, but kicked it in and led at halftime 35-32. It was back-and-forth from there and SMC had a 5-point lead with about 6 minutes to go, but the Raiders were able to knock down a bunch from the charity stripe for the victory. Sophomore Rashawn Bost topped the chart with 23 points and shot 50% (5 of 10) from behind the arc. Sophomore Mari Nichols and Hull both double-doubled and sophomore Zach Stokes added 9.

The Roadrunners, now 8-6, have a week before starting conference play at home vs. Marian Ancilla on January 13.
