MBB Clipped at Home, Wins on Road

SMC Men's Basketball lost a close one Thursday, but bounced back with a road win Saturday.

Home against Grace College, the Roadrunners lost a heartbreaker 60-59. SMC played the Lancers much closer than the October scrimmage in Indiana, but it started the same as Grace rained in 3-pointers, went up 11 points early and led by 8 at halftime. But the Roadrunners regrouped, and with a 10-2 run out of the break knotted the score at 32. Then it was a back and forth affair that was tied at 59 with 8.4 seconds to go. SMC fouled going for a steal, and with Grace making just one free throw, the Roadrunners raced down the court, but could not convert at the buzzer for the win. SMC was led by freshman Aries Hull, who double-doubled with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomores Mari Nichols and Nate Goins each added 10 points.

Saturday was a much different story as SMC took care of business on the road with a 70-41 win at Andrews University. The game was tight through the first ten minutes before the Roadrunners opened a 19-point halftime lead on the way to the 29-point victory. Nichols led the team with 21 points, Hull double-doubled again with 12 points and 16 rebounds, a new school single-game rebound record. Freshman Prince Adams added 11 points and 6 rebounds. The Roadrunners cleaned the glass as a team with 63 total rebounds (19 offensive and 44 defensive), also a new single-game record.

SMC is 7-4 going into a break for final exams before heading to Detroit to face the 5-6 Community Christian College Lions on Monday, December 18.
