Men's Basketball Gets Both Last Week

Men's Basketball Gets Both Last Week

SMC Men's Basketball took both of their games last week and pushed their season record to 4-2.

On Thursday, the team used an 11-0 run to start the game and force the Andrews University Cardinals into a timeout at the 14:10 mark of the first half. The Roadrunners pushed the lead to 13 by halftime and then scored the next 8 out of the break. A lot of missed short ones and some miscues on defense melted a 21-point lead to just 9, and then MCCAA Western Conference Player of the Week sophomore Rodell Davis, Jr. finally found his stroke and SMC pulled away down the stretch.

The Roadrunners were led by freshman Prince Adams with 16 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Davis added 15 and freshman Aries Hull dropped 10.

On Thursday, the squad overcame another early deficit and won 81-76 over the Purple Panthers of Olive-Harvey College.

The Roadrunners got down by 7 early and faced a 30-38 hole at the break. But in the second half, they chipped away at the Panthers, missing a couple close ones to take the lead and finally getting over the hump coming out of a timeout. SMC went on a run to get up 10, were up 8 with 2 minutes to go and hung on for the victory. Sophomore Mikel Forrest was the spark the Roadrunners needed in the second period, scoring 26 of his 28 in the back half. Sophomore Mari Nichols added 15 and Hull again had 10. SMC struggled again with taking care of the ball, committing 28 turnovers in the game, a new school mark.

SMC has to get ready quickly for the Parkland College Cobras, currently ranked #8 in NJCAA Division II, as they are set to slither into the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse on Tuesday, November 21 at 7:30pm.
